"Who
says 21 is over the hump?
You wanna turn the ropes, ladies
and let a woman jump?"
The DOUBLE DUTCH DIVAS are an artistic group of women in
their 40's, and 50's who defy the demons of time by jumping double dutch.
Did I say jumping? -- I meant, dancing double dutch. Rhythmically
speaking, they dance within the ropes, twirling, turning, twisting, and
doing fancy footwork to a variety of music as well as original songs
composed by them.
The DOUBLE DUTCH DIVAS have performed their unique
routines in Italy, Canada and across the United States in children's,
folk, college, heritage, and arts festivals, street fairs, parades,
marathons, museum functions, public and private schools, public and
private functions, and fund raising events. The DOUBLE DUTCH DIVAS
have been on television nationally and internationally.
Double dutch, formerly an inner-city activity, is accomplished using at
least two ropes turning in egg-beater fashion with one or more persons
jumping in the middle simultaneously.
One of their original songs states:
"We can't tell you where it started
We don't know where it has been
But have no doubt, the word is out,
That double dutch is in".
